Marines being all they can be
- Webmaster: For my Marine brothers out there: Semper Fi! A platoon of Marines was sent to train with the Army at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. The Lieutenant in charge of the exercise was briefing the Marines: "Alright, gentlemen, now you are going to board this plane outside which will fly you to this location," pointing to the map, "at an altitude of 800 feet. You will then jump out, land in this zone, then regroup and travel on foot to this location, " pointing again at the map, "where you will meet up with the rest of the battalion. Any questions?" The Marines all got into a huddle, discussing amongst themselves. Finally, a sergeant, the obvious spokesman of the group, stepped forward. "Sir, might it be possible for the plane to fly a bit lower, like maybe 500 feet?" The Lieutenant was amazed. After hearing so much about how tough the Marine Corps was, to hear these fellows afraid to fly at 800 feet! "I'm sorry, Sergeant, but the planes have to climb to 800 feet to allow the parachutes time to open!" he replied. The Marines, who had all looked worried, now seemed relieved. "Oh!" they all said. "You're gonna give us parachutes!"
